The RNC Tries to Willie Horton the Wall Street Melt Down
So, it’s back to the drawing board on Wednesday for the Senate to vote for the President’s bailout plan. But now the Republicans are twisting it and calling it Obama’s bailout plan. Actually, I think they are blaming him for the whole fiasco.
I was pretty shocked to see the commercial tonight. It seems kind of Rovian. Next they’ll be telling us that Bush is really a Democrat.
Even the editorial board at the New York Times is pretty shocked at how the Republicans are trying to work this crisis and spin it into Obama’s fault. On their website they called the ad “misleading and propagandistic”. They are also surprised how the two ads playing now have tried to connect the whole Wall Street crisis to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and hypothesize the reason they are trying to link the problems to the two organizations are linked to race.
The other, more insidious reason, is that the two mortgage giants were created to help lower-income people buy homes, especially minorities. In the Republican view of politics, that makes them the enemy.
It’s the tried and true Republican stand-by to scare the white public with brown minorities when things get rough. The RNC can Willie Horton the Wall Street Melt Down all they want to, but we all know this debacle is white collar all the way.
